“I somehow managed to get a grain of rice in the kettle last night. Not sure how I managed it as the lid was on and there's a filter in the spout!” wrote my friend on Facebook today. One of life’s true mysteries. I can’t explain what happened so the only solution is that mystical forces, beyond the grasp of our limited perceptual senses, moved the grain of rice into the kettle. How else did it get there? Perhaps a benevolent, omniscient, omnipotent uber-being put it in there because it was bored. Alternatively, the action of teleporting the grain of rice into the kettle had drastic consequences via the Butterfly Effect and changed the course of the future, thus averting a major humanitarian disaster many centuries away. Not sure where it fits into the equation, but Morgan Freeman does deliver one of my favorite quotes on the subject in the film, The Big Bounce. "God is an imaginary friend for grown-ups."
