I'm extremely pleased to welcome back staff writer Elle Matheuse, whose thought-provoking, often controversial columns have been gracing the virtual pages of this site since way back in 2007. She's got a great idea for you this time round, to assuage the guilt of a capitalist Christmas... but you might not like it.

As an independent adult, albeit one with a relatively low income and limited spatial awareness, I generally manage to furnish myself with the things I need to survive and flourish.
